Meagre
It scientific name is Argyrosomus regius and belongs to the family of Scianidae.It is very similar to the Sea bass with silver color and a yellow-colored mouth. Its length can attain 2 m. and its weight 100 kg.
This fish lives in inshore waters and can be found all around the Mediterranean Sea and the East coasts of the Atlantic Ocean; very recently, it made its appearance in the North Red Sea.
The preferred habitat of the meagre is in the deep sea, up to 300m, however, it may also be found in very shallow waters, close to rocks or in sandy bottoms with seaweeds. It is a sarcophagus fish feeding mainly on other fish such as red mullets, sardines and crustaceans.
