Potato is one of the main cash crops for the farmers as well as among the main exportable horticulture commodity from the country. Therefore, it is apparent from the above that bulk of the potato crop is harvested from January to March. The most grown variety of Potato is SANTE. It can be safely stored up to 6 months. The autumn crop is placed in cold stores in addition to feeding the instant market. The stored potatoes are gradually released during the lean crop period generally from June onward for domestic market which fetches premium price. The size of the crop therefore has directly impact on prices of stored potatoes. The market prices during January to March are lower than the remaining months.
