About 50-60% of the mango crop is affected by the sudden change in the climate.
Among the varieties, “Dusheri” is the least affected by the heat waves. While “Sindhri” has more deformed and small-sized fruits compared to 2021. Black scorching may appear on “SB Chaunsa” and “‘White Chaunsa” mango varieties due to these heatwaves.
Exportable fruit of “Sindhri” is about only 20% this year. First flowers were severely affected by the sudden change in climate after that fruit drop (Marble stage) occur in April due rise in temperature i.e. 4 °C more from 2021.
Rahim Yar Khan is more affected than Multan and other mango-growing regions of Punjab. The outer canopy of the tree is greatly affected as compared to the inside Moreover, he pointed out the following important factor responsible for the decline of the mango crop: high temperature, shortage of canal water, load shedding, and the traditional mindset of mango (Not to irrigate the field).
