With the aim of strengthening the health of pigs, the National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) has established a new National Plan for the Control and Eradication of Aujeszky's Disease. The program covers all domestic pig production establishments for livestock purposes, updating their sanitary classification. Now, two categories are distinguished: establishments free of Aujeszky's Disease and farms under surveillance. Productive units with more than 100 animals in the sows and boars category must perform diagnostics every four months to certify the disease-free status, as breeding establishments already did. Premises with an amount of 99 animals or less must take a biannual serological test to certify their condition under surveillance. The new resolution adds the figure of a Swine Housing Establishment with Protection against Aujeszky, which can receive pigs of any category and sanitary status, provided they are vaccinated within 14 days after entry.
