As a part of product diversification efforts, a number of tilapia suppliers in Indonesia have begun the production of value-added and ready-to-cook, and individually packaged tilapia. This diversification was done after a market test showed an increasing demand for packaged ready to eat foods. The suppliers claimed that selling tilapia this way is also more profitable for the business as they can sell the product at a higher price. At the moment, this product is only available at the modern retailers across Indonesia, as this product needs proper cold storage to preserve it.
