Bulgarian farmers are pushing the government for VAT reduction from 20% to 5% or 3% for fresh fruits and vegetables.
The farmers' main argument is to make the domestic production more price-competitive against imported goods.
Farmers argue that more than 50% of fresh fruit and vegetable imports are delivered without the necessary documents thus illegal and at cheaper prices.
If the proposal of the farmers is accepted to a reduction of 5% VAT, then the local prices could be reduced by 15% as well, farmers further argue.
