The government of Tanzania has made amendments to the Tax Act of Customs for East African Community countries by levying Customs Duty at the rate of 35% instead of 25% for the period of the year one on coffee imported from outside the country recognized by (HS Code 09.01). The goal of these improvements is to protect local industries and encouraging coffee farming in the country to increase government employment and revenue. The Government has also made amendments to the Tax Act of Customs for East African Community countries by levying Customs Duty at the rate of 35% instead of the 100% rate for a period of one year for sugar consumption (import sugar) imported of the country with special permits for the purpose of closing the gap of sugar production in the country.
