Anchovy Catch Plummets in Turkish Seas Due to Climate Change

Over the past four years, the anchovy catch in Turkish seas has dropped significantly by 48%. Starting at 262.5 thousand metric tons (mt) in 2019, it decreased to 171.2 thousand mt in 2020, 151.5 thousand mt in 2021, and further down to 126 thousand mt in 2022. This decline is primarily linked to increasing seawater temperatures due to global warming. The diminishing anchovy population highlights the need for proactive measures to address climate change's impacts on fisheries and the marine ecosystem.
