Sunflower prices in Romania are skyrocketing due to unusually high demand from Turkey, reported by the Electronic Grain Exchange of Ukraine. Our southern neighbor has increased imports of sunflower seeds from the Black Sea region due to a poor harvest. According to Ukrainian experts, the situation is exacerbated by the regional shortage and logistical problems in the import of Ukrainian sunflower oil, as well as by the internal competition between Romanian processors and exporters. The volumes of sunflower exports already exceed the average annual indicators. Sunflower seed prices currently are: in Romania – $695-700/t FOB in Turkey – $700-715/t CIF
