Kenyan ginger production and exports have been low in recent years but have picked up since 2020. In 2020, total production was 841MT compared to 84MT in 2017. Similarly, export volumes have increased significantly from 704kgs in 2019 to about 64MT in 2021. The increased exports resulted from increased demand from Eastern Europe and East Africa following the COVID-19 pandemic. Ginger trades for around USD 1/kg in W38 of 2022 and is widely sourced from the Coastal, Eastern and Western regions of Kenya.
