Tanzania raises custom duty for the import of tea and cocoa

The Tanzania government has made amendments to the Tax Act of Customs for the countries of the East African Community to increase Customs Duty from 25 percent to 35 percent for one year on imported tea from abroad and is recognized by HS Codes 09.02. The aim of these improvements is to protect local industries and encouraging tea cultivation in the country as well as supplementation employment in the value chain of the tea crop.
Also, increase Customs Duty from zero percent (0) up to 10 percent for a period of one year for cocoa imported from abroad and recognized by HS Codes 1805.00.00. The goal of these improvements is to stimulate and encourage the cultivation of cocoa crops in the country and increase contribution to GDP.
