A shortage of maize in Kenya led to a price increase of 22% WoW, from USD 0.41/kg in W46 to USD 0.50/kg in W47. The shortage has been attributed to the lack of rain experienced early in 2022. Kenya has an annual deficit of 10M bags of 90kg of maize for consumption, creating room for importation from neighbouring countries.
