Warm weather conditions in Greece prevented the sowing of leafy vegetables in August, while rainy weather in Northern Europe and drought in Spain further exacerbated the scarcity of leafy vegetables in Greece and the European cut salad industry as a whole. Due to the supply shortage, sourcing prices for leafy vegetables have surged to unsustainable levels, while demand for cut salad products has steadily decreased, reaching a 15% drop since January. Due to the production gap, the industry is cautious about further investment as capital will be needed for the upcoming winter season.
