There has been a recent shortage of shipping containers in Mindanao, Philippines, especially on-demand 40-foot containers. A previous survey with 65 respondents showed that 30,000 twenty-foot units of cargo have been pending due to the shortage. This will certainly affect the Philippines' agricultural industry since companies that ship out tropical fruits and frozen fruits usually ship out 85 full containers of these products on a regular basis.
In particular, it may put a burden on the banana industry as the Philippine government has raised the importance of increasing the supply of banana exports in the country. This limited supply of containers may be a large contributor to freight rates soaring and a great delay in the improvement of banana exports in the Philippines.
