During W48, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) jointly issued a recall of cantaloupes in Canada and the US. This action was prompted by a Salmonella outbreak from cantaloupe, which had resulted in over 100 illnesses and a few fatalities since mid-November. Collaborative investigations from the FDA and USDA officials in Mexico in cooperation with The Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS) agents in Mexico have been conducted on all food safety protocols to determine responsibilities and apply total quarantine for Mexican cantaloupe fields involved in this health crisis.
