Every 6 to 7 years, sugarcane producers have to make a crop rotation in order to recover the nitrogen levels of the soil. Soybeans and peanuts are excellent sources of nitrogen, favoring a fast soil recovery, thus inducing the farmers to chose those leguminous crops to other crops. In a sugarcane farmer cooperative with 1,200 members, around 110 of them are choosing peanut as the crop rotation option to the popular soybean. This number grows every year due to the lesser expense of inputs.
