The recent rains in Southern Spain are expected to benefit the olive industry as it improves water reserves and helps olive trees to withstand the summer's heat. However, these rains will unlikely be enough to mitigate the impact of the 2022 heat wave and the lack of rain during critical periods as trees require the most water when they are in bloom, which is in March or April. There aren't many flowers left on the tree right now, so the current rain won't directly impact the fruit. Due to the shortfall this year, virgin olive oil costs in W21 are at an all-time high of USD 6.41/kg EXW Spain.
