Sea cucumbers are high in nutritional values and medicinal properties. However, the booming online trade and expanding appetite for sea cucumber in Malaysia is threatening their population. Malaysian sellers on online trading platform Tradekey alone is capable to offer more than 4,000 kg of sea cucumbers, with accumulated 2,000 kg on monthly basis and 100 kg on weekly basis. Therefore, the authorities should monitor both the physical and online trade of sea cucumber and introduce a tracking system to ensure authenticity and sustainability of the product.
