May 2023 Witnessed a 15.58% Increase in Average Selling Price of Thai Fresh Durian Compared to May 2022

The average selling price of Thai fresh durian in May 2023 showed a significant increase of approximately 15.58% compared to May 2022. In May 2022, the average selling price in Jiang Nan Market, Guangzhou, China, was approximately USD 6.06/Kg (RMB 43.32/Kg). However, in May 2023, the price surged to around USD 7.19/Kg (RMB 51.37/Kg). This price hike can be attributed to the increased cost of fertilizers, resulting from the side effects of the Russia-Ukraine war. Since the majority of raw materials for fruit fertilizers are imported from these two countries, the conflict led to higher fertilizer prices, which subsequently impacted the overall cost of Thai fresh durian.
