A large local sugar mill in Thailand explained that the price discrepancy between Thai and Brazil sugar is due to two major reasons, which also explains why Thailand does not accept majority of sugar inquiries from Europe, North America, South America. Thailand produces high quality of sugar but logistics challenges cause a huge difference in price with Brazilian sugar. As it is such a low-value, high-volume commodity, logistics affect the deal establishments and many non-Asian markets do not prefer to import from Thailand because of proximity. As a result, while Brazil is the world's largest exporter, Thailand remains the second largest exporter. Thai sugar mills add more values on therir products to gain competitive advantage against Brazilian sugar in other countries that are highly dependent on Thai sugar.
