The date industry in Tunisia is facing overproduction amidst falling prices and non existant demand

The date industry in the south of Tunisia is struggling due to the COVID 19 crisis. Region of Kébili and Tozeur has experienced a decline in the prices amidst non-existent demand due to which the exports impacted severely. The harmful effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been added to already existing problems including high production costs, scarcity of water resources, lack of manpower and also the lack of a compensation fund and compensation for accidents occurring in the workplace.
