The EU Commission has temporarily banned the export of wheat, corn, canola, and sunflower from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia from May 2 to June 5, and the ban may be extended if necessary. The EC will furthermore provide farmers affected by grain surpluses on the market with USD 109.20M in aid in exchange for the cancellation of the unilateral ban on the import of any agricultural products from Ukraine introduced on their own. Instead of an outright ban, the new agreement should facilitate the transfer of grain imports from Ukraine for their transit to other countries.
