The Export Association and INIA lead the project to strengthen the passion fruit chain. This initiative, that started in 2018, seeks to implement greater technology and improve the management of passion fruit cultivation and will favor the work of the main actors in the chain in two phases.

The first is technology transfer, which is nearing completion thanks tothe training given by Colombian, Brazilian and Peruvian specialists to producers in the northern part of the country. Where demonstration plots were installed to carry out tests with collected seeds, in order to analyze their behavior in the fields.

In the second phase, the aim is to achieve an optimal seed, with higher degree of brix or sweetness per production area. For this, the selection and evaluation plan will be continued in the demonstration plots, with the aim of carrying out the relevant tests and analyzing their behavior in the fields.

Between January and July 2020, the export of passion fruit (US $ 25 million aprox.) fell -8% compared to the same period of 2019. The main destination was Netherlands with US $ 16 million.
