Italy is by far the main export market for Norwegian stockfish, especially in regions such as Veneto, Liguria, Campania, Puglia, Calabria, and Sicily. Out of the yearly average export volume of 2,700-3,000MT amounting to USD 471.33M globally, the export volume of Norwegian stockfish to Italy in 2021 reached 2,400MT, an increase of 29% YoY from 1,855MT in 2020. Through importers and specialised companies in Italy, stockfish finds an outlet in large-scale distribution, traditional fishmongers, and catering, a fundamental channel for this business. After Italy, Nigeria is the most important destination for stockfish.
