FGV: GDP Monitor points to 0.7% increase in August over July

By Daniela Amorim Rio, 10/17/2025 – The Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.7% in August compared to July, according to the GDP Monitor, compiled by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Ibre/FGV). Compared to August 2024, there was a 1.3% growth in August 2025. The accumulated rate over 12 months until August was 2.7%. According to FGV, although household consumption shows weakening, economic activity exhibits "notable resilience." "The three major sectors of activity (agriculture, industry, and services) contributed positively to the 0.7% growth of the economy in August, compared to July. However, from the demand perspective, there was a contraction in household consumption for the third consecutive month; a component that represents more than 60% of the GDP.
