According to the update by the Municipal Livestock Survey (PPM 2019), Brazilian milk production amounted to 34.8 billion litres. This is the second-highest volume registered since 1974. The highest milk production was seen in 2014 when 35.1 billion litres was produced. The number of milked cows fell by 0.5%, totalling 16.3 million animals, generating an average production of 2,141 litres of milk per cow/year. Minas Gerais, Goiás and Paraná, with Minas Gerais are the 3 largest milk-producing states accounting for 27.1% of the total quantity produced in Brazil. The average price paid per litre of milk in Brazil was BRL 1.24, an increase of 6.7% compared to 2018. As there was an increase in both the volume produced and the price, the value of milk production evolved 9.6%, totalling BRL 43.1 billion.
