The fishing port of Beira has been established since the colonial era and had since then been deteriorated, until its demise in the year 2000, when it was completely devastated by the Eline cyclone, which rendered it unusable. It had since then been unused until its inauguration in October last year. This month marks the first time the port is handling fresh produce of large quantities, recently handling over 700 tons of horse mackerel coming from Namibia. The port is now equipped with cold rooms able to reach -25 degrees and able to conserve fish for a year, and others able to go -60 degrees for tuna.
