The State Duma of Russia adopted in the third and final reading a law on the government's right to independently determine at what rise in prices for socially significant food products their cost should be regulated.
Previously, if such goods in one or several regions rose in price by 30% or more per month, the government could set maximum retail prices for up to 90 days. The passed law removes this restriction, and now the government will be able to impose maximum retail prices for up to 90 days at any time. It is believed that this will make it possible to quickly respond to the price situation.
The list of socially significant products will be set by the government. Now the list includes beef, pork, lamb (except for boneless meat), chicken meat (except for chicken legs), fish, butter and sunflower oil, milk, eggs, sugar, salt, tea, flour, bread, rice, millet, buckwheat, vermicelli, potatoes, cabbage, onions, carrots, apples.
