The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a five-year strategic food system plan in Tanzania aimed at supporting small-scale farmers by facilitating participation in the value chain and providing better market access for their produce, especially sorghum, sunflower, and soybeans. The system aims to help farmers improve their production methods and link them with markets, which in turn would improve their livelihoods.

The WFP plans to partner with banks to provide financial support to over 400 farmers to fund input costs such as seeds, fertilizer and fuel. The programme is worth USD 15 million(TZS 35 billion) and aims to stimulate horticultural farming to help Tanzanians to raise nutritious produce in the fight against food insecurity.
