Iceland's 100% Fish Programme is a pioneering initiative aimed at achieving zero waste in the fishing industry by utilizing every part of the fish, as led by the Iceland Ocean Cluster. This program seeks to transform the traditional fishing industry into a model of sustainability and efficiency, ensuring no part of the fish is wasted and maximizing socio-economic value. The project has seen significant advancements, with companies developing supplements, proteins, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals from fish parts, and a 30-fold increase in utilization of secondary yields in fisheries since the 1990s. Despite challenges, collaboration and the global sharing of knowledge are expected to further boost the seafood industry and increase the global protein supply.
