The Korean government is cracking down on the illegal practice of selling seedlings under multiple names, also known as the 'one variety name' issue. This deceptive marketing strategy has led to confusion and high prices for farmers. In response, the National Seed Resources has ordered the collection of 117 onion varieties from 26 companies and revoked their authorization. To prevent any financial harm to farmers, the government will notify local governments in the main onion seed production areas. This measure is part of an ongoing campaign that has already seen 363 varieties of 17 crops withdrawn by 42 companies. The government plans to increase legal measures against this practice in the future.
