The American Soybean Association has released its annual report on the U.S. Soybean Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP), highlighting the growth of sustainably produced U.S. soybeans. In 2021, 45 million tons of soybeans, or 70% of the total U.S. soybean export volume, were shipped with the SSAP certificate, marking a 56% increase over two years. The report emphasizes the environmental advantages of U.S. soybeans, such as the lowest carbon footprint, and the growing number of products using the U.S. Soybean Sustainability Certification Logo (SUSS). The U.S. aims to reach '2025 Sustainability Goals' by reducing land use impacts, soil erosion, and greenhouse gas emissions. The SSAP is a voluntary program that verifies sustainable production practices through third-party audits.
