A recent report by the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) indicates that some tuna stocks are overexploited and overfished. Notably, the Mediterranean albacore, bigeye, and yellowfin tuna in the Indian Ocean, as well as the bluefin tuna in the Pacific Ocean, are undersir. The report also highlights changes in the classification of tuna stocks since the last update, such as the Indian Ocean bigeye tuna stock's biomass rating changing from green to orange. Overall, 61% of 23 stocks are at healthy abundance levels, but 17% are overexploited. The total catch of the main commercial tuna populations in 2021 was 4.8 million tons, with skipjack tuna accounting for 56% of this figure.
