European Union soybean imports for the 2023/24 season, which began in July, reached 6.00 million metric tons by Jan. 7, up from 5.96 million a year earlier. Imports of rapeseed into the EU for the same period amounted to 2.84 million tons, compared to 3.97 million a year earlier. Soybean meal imports amounted to 7.54 million tons versus 8.60 million a year earlier, and palm oil imports amounted to 1.76 million tons versus 2.04 million a year earlier. *data on imports to Italy is missing since December 20. Since the beginning of July, Russia has exported over 453.7 thousand tons of sunflower and rapeseed meal to the territory of the European Union, which is more than 16% higher than the level in the same period last year (388.96 thousand tons). The Russian Federation remains the key supplier of rapeseed meal to the EU in the current agricultural year - 197.063 thousand tons (share - 39.2%) against 136.887 thousand tons (39.3%) in 2022/23 MY.
