In the first half of 2024, Hungary's domestic slaughterhouses produced 224,000 tons of pork and 274,000 tons of poultry. There was a decrease in the number of cattle slaughtered by 10.4%, an increase in the number of pigs by 6.9%, and a significant rise in the number of poultry halves by 11.9% compared to the same period in the previous year. Hungary also imported and exported a substantial amount of live cattle and pigs, with the majority of exports going to Kosovo, Croatia, and Austria, and imports mainly from Denmark, Germany, and Italy. The pork sold on the international market saw a 20% increase, reaching 70,000 tons. Additionally, there was a notable growth in the number of ducks slaughtered, increasing by 59.7%, while the number of ewes decreased by 10.4%. The domestic poultry population also grew by 2.9% to 32.2 million on June 1, 2024.
