A special cultivation method requires a specialized machine: this is the Delfino plow, which is changing millions of lives. The Sahel zone, located in the southern part of the Sahara, is also known as the hunger belt, as the severe water shortage makes not only agricultural production difficult but also human habitation. Although the annual rainfall ranges between 200–800 mm, the uneven distribution (with only a few rainy months) makes planned, predictable farming completely impossible, with only millet growing in that region. The locals have devised a more or less working technology, which could perhaps be called crescent-shaped cultivation. This does not refer to the size of the area but to its shape: 4–6 meter semicircular depressions are created in the dry soil, which essentially act as water collectors.
