Work on establishing a global standard for "Gim products," known for their black semiconductor, has begun. At the 48th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX, hereinafter referred to as Codex) held in Rome, Italy, the proposal by our country, "Request for approval of new work to transition Gim products to a global standard," was approved last 14th (based on local time). Codex global standards are the only international standards in the food sector. Our country has three items—kimchi (2001), ginseng products (2015), and gochujang (2020)—as global standards, and three items—doenjang (2009), gim (2017), and cheonggukjang (2023)—as regional standards.
