Hungary has seen a 70 percent increase in its ecological arable land over the past ten years, covering nearly 100,000 hectares, with expectations for further growth. The country is part of a European trend towards organic farming, which has expanded to 16.5 million hectares, with Hungary currently at 5.7 percent organic farming within its total agricultural area. The Seed Association is working to increase the use of organic seeds and expand organic plant breeding. A small-plot autumn organic wheat variety test is underway to help farmers select suitable varieties and support seed companies. By 2036, the EU requires all seeds used in organic farming to be sourced from certified organic farming, aiming to benefit the organic farming sector and encourage more farmers to adopt organic practices.
