A type of deciduous leaf in Vietnam suddenly became a high-value export item

To meet export standards, bamboo leaves go through important stages such as purchasing, quality inspection, and transportation. These leaves need to be large, evenly green, and undamaged. After meticulous drying and cleaning, the leaves are exported to Taiwan and Japan for use in packaging food and cakes. Despite being sold at around 7,000 VND/kg to small traders, the export price for bamboo leaves is higher at 10,000 VND/kg (fresh) and 40,000 VND/kg (dried), with Vietnam expecting to reach 2 million USD in revenue from bamboo leaf exports in 2022. Additionally, on foreign e-commerce sites, bamboo leaves are sold at prices exceeding 240,000 VND/kg.
