Following the cases of swine fever in Catalonia, UME military personnel have arrived in Barcelona to assist in the control efforts of the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak affecting wild boars in the Collserola park.
This was stated in an interview on RAC1, where it was explained that, to date, the Animal Health Research Center (CReSA) has analyzed nearly 40 wild boars from the perimeter area around Cerdanyola del Vallès, near the Collserola park, of which two have tested positive and eight are suspected to be positive.
Ordeig explained that yesterday, Sunday, there were 300 personnel involved in the control efforts, including agents from Mossos d'Esquadra, Rural Agents, the Barcelona Urban Guard, the ADF, Civil Protection, and local police, to whom "now will be added those from the UME, about 80."
"We will see if more are needed or not. This will depend on whether we find more positive animals and have to expand the focus areas," he added.
