The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) positively evaluated the conclusion of the agreement between Mercosur and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), highlighting the opening of new opportunities for the export of meats. "The Mercosur-EFTA agreement represents an important recognition of Mercosur and a strategic advance, mainly due to the positive signaling in terms of predictability and trade facilitation," the entity stated in a note. The understanding provides for a quota of 1,000 tons of chicken meat per year, with zero tariff, to be redistributed among the Mercosur countries. The ABPA stressed, however, that the immediate effects will be concentrated in Switzerland - the only country in the bloc that already imports poultry products from Brazil.
