The Agricultural Defense Agency of Bahia (Adab) is intensifying surveillance and promoting preventive actions to stop the spread of Cocoa Moniliasis in Bahian crops, particularly in the municipality of Mâncio Lima, Acre, due to an identified infestation. Adab is collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and other states like Ceará, Mato Grosso, and Pará to control the disease caused by the Moniliophthora roreri fungus through training, investigation, and technical support. This is part of Bahia's Phytosanitary Project to Prevent Cacao Moniliasis, which includes education, identification of entry points, and risk routes, as well as emergency courses. The concern is heightened by the presence of a water station due in November, fearing the spread of the fungus through the air. The first outbreak in Brazil was detected in July this year, and the potential economic impact is significant, with losses in annual cocoa production reported from Colombia, Venezuela, and Costa Rica.
