Argentina: Adhering to UPOV 91 means access to the best genetic technology available for all producers

Adherence to the UPOV 1991 Act will allow the Argentine producer to access the best genetic technology in the world, which is key to increasing the productivity and nutrition of crops, their exportable balances and their resilience in the face of growing climate volatility. ACTA 1991 creates own use by farmers; exception that does not exist in ACTA 1978 to which Argentina is adhered today. Currently, authorizing the own use of certain species in Argentina is a requirement that must be met to be able to exercise it, this implies declaring varieties used, production quantity, among others; under threat of fines and losing this right. In countries adhering to UPOV ACTA 1991, they have regulated that small producers are exempt from paying for their own use.
