South Korea is experiencing a surge in food prices, particularly eggs, chicken, and duck meat, due to the spread of avian influenza in poultry farms, with the number of affected farms reaching 63 and resulting in the culling of over 8.5 million laying hens and 5.4 million broilers. This has led to a 25.9% increase in egg prices and a rise in pork belly and Korean beef sirloin prices by 24.2% and 8.4% respectively, compared to the previous year. Additionally, a recent cold wave has affected the availability and prices of vegetables like sesame leaves and green onions. The South Korean government is planning to address these inflationary concerns by increasing supply and providing measures to stabilize livestock prices.
