The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) is considering the risk of worsening avian influenza in Spain, due to the current migratory season of birds, and therefore has decreed the confinement of all poultry raised outdoors, "the maximum" biosecurity measure possible. This has been declared by ministry sources, following the publication of the decision that establishes, starting this Thursday, the confinement of all poultry farms that are raised outdoors in Spain, to prevent the contagion of avian influenza. Confinement is the "last" biosecurity safety measure that the Government can take, on a national scale, and has been adopted after the latest outbreaks and after MAPA considered that there is a risk of worsening avian influenza because at this time it is the migratory season of wild birds.
