The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam held a conference to review the sector's performance in 2020 and outline its plans for 2021. The ministry discussed the challenges faced by Vietnamese agricultural products in export markets due to trade and technical barriers. In 2020, the sector proactively addressed technical issues in food safety and animal and plant quarantine with various countries. Despite the impact of Covid-19 and natural disasters, the industry saw a trade surplus of 10.4 billion USD, with five commodities exceeding 3 billion USD in export turnover. The ministry aims to leverage Free Trade Agreements to boost exports in 2021 and maintain a trade surplus. The agricultural sector also opened new markets for various products in 2020.
