The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico is launching a project to promote the development of the nopal crop in regions with low humidity, using technological packages to strengthen production units and integrate them into the nopal value chain. The project, which is being piloted in Zacatecas, aims to replace alfalfa and corn with forage nopal, which uses half the water of irrigation. The project will be expanded to other areas, and will provide technical studies, installation of drip irrigation systems, and preparation of biofertilizer, as well as training for technicians and producers.
