The Chilean blueberry industry has experienced remarkable growth since 2008, with production increasing from under 40,000 tons to 117,000 tons in the 2020-2021 season. This expansion was driven by a strategic shift to supply the U.S. market during its off-season and the formation of the Chilean Blueberry Committee in 2009. However, the global blueberry market has become more competitive, leading to a decline in fresh Chilean blueberry exports. To counter this, producers have started exporting frozen blueberries and introducing new varieties. The industry has also invested in post-harvest technologies to improve logistics and quality. This season, 63% of exported blueberries were new varieties, and weather conditions have resulted in exceptional fruit quality. The industry plans to boost global profile through increased marketing and promotional campaigns.
