Algeria has entered a landmark 420 million euro agreement with the Italian firm Bonifiche Ferraresi to develop a grain, legume, and pasta production project in Timimoun, which will create 6,700 jobs. Spanning 36,000 hectares, the project aims to satisfy domestic consumption and enhance exports. This initiative is part of Algeria's strategy to boost agricultural production in the desert south and improve food security, aligning with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni's Plan Mattei to curb illegal migration from Africa through investment.
