Algeria collaborated with the European Union to open its first olive oil analysis laboratory in the region of Kabylia, as part of the national Agriculture Support Program to modernize olive oil production. The EU contributed six million euros to the laboratory, which aims to improve the quality and promote the export prospects of Algerian olive oil. The olive sector is one of the most important crops in Algeria, with the country being among the top ten largest olive harvesters and producing over 100 million liters of olive oil annually.
